On the right track (09/2008)

While many posts still sequence flats using manual fittings, there are solutions that are less time consuming and that minimise the preparation cost.

Usually, when a postman delivers on his carrier walk with a single satchel, he has previously inserted manually some flats into the sequenced letter stack, which means more preparation time.

Problem in hand

The insertion time for flats and non machinable mails into the sequenced letter stack, usually manually done, represents important preparation time and cost. In Europe, a carrier walk is usually made up of fewer than 1.000 letter mailpieces, fewer than 200 flat mailpieces and about 50 non machinable pieces. This does not include non-addressed mail, which is sometimes delivered at the same time as mail that is addressed.

Solution proposed by SOLYSTIC

MARS C4 sequences mail pieces up to a C4  format.

The mail pieces are accepted with a 8mm thickness and a 300g weight.

The flat-sorting machines are able to identify pieces that have the attributes to be sequenced on MARS C4, and isolate them.

Results

MARS C4 sequences mail volume roughly 20% larger than a standard MARS.

MARS C4 can process plastic wrapped items.

Huge labour savings: for a 800 letters sorting, 200 flats and 100 non machinables mails, the preparation cost will be 75€ for a manual preparation, 32€ with a standard MARS, and 18€ with a MARS C4.
