Problem in hand Increase the productivity of the existing centre and improve the operators’ working conditions.
Improve the rate of address recognition to reduce processing lead times. Reduce impacts on the environment.
Solution proposed by SOLYSTIC Update the letter sorting video coding system installed in 2003 by adding a V-Id™ solution enabling deferred video coding using a virtual identity tag. A La Poste Courrier International / SOLYSTIC partnership enabling progressive deployment of the solution. The project was covered by high-profile and regular internal communication bulletins, particularly concerning the gains which were attained, in order to involve each and every team of employees. Improve the user interface of video coding stations both for better work station ergonomics and greater efficiency.
Results Actual length of project: 1 year, from assessment to operational installations. Reduced processing time for unrecognised envelopes. Increased video coding rates (from 82% to 88%). Fewer operators at video coding station (from 32 to 24). Improved working conditions for operators, particularly by enabling flexible break times. Significant reduction in costs associated with printing (lower maintenance costs and fewer consumables). A clean and environmentally-friendly solution: no ink.
Future Following the success of this initial solution for letter sorting, a similar solution suitable for flat objects is currently under review.
Focus on V-Id™
Application of a virtual identity tag which enables each object to be identified. This tag provides access to a file containing elements required for sorting (images and outcome of coding). This system, which has no constraints on real-time, regulates the flow of mail to video coders.
